Brittany Thaxter, M.Sc.

Registered Psychologist

Brittany is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Brittany graduated from her Master of Science in Counselling with a specialization in substance abuse counselling through Prescott College. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Psychology through California Southern University. She was trained in EMDR in Spring of 2022 and has completed additional training in adventure-based psychotherapy, equine assisted mental health, and nature-based therapy.

Prior to completing her Masters degree, Brittany worked in a position supporting families and youth involved with Children’s Services. Brittany completed two graduate level internships: one supporting adolescents and their families through substance abuse and the second working with a non-profit agency supporting people of all ages in reaching their therapeutic goals. Part of this work included offering counselling specifically for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members in navigating issues related to gender, sexuality, and/or discrimination. After graduating in 2018, Brittany worked as a mental health therapist at a non-profit agency supporting survivors of sexual assault and abuse in their trauma processing journey.

Brittnay-EquineBrittany uses a person-centered, integrated approach to therapy that incorporates different strategies to best support clients’ diverse needs. She practices from a feminist, anti-racist, queer affirming, sex-positive lens and strives to create safe spaces for anyone who shares her office. Some of the approaches Brittany most often works with are nature-based, narrative, somatic, EMDR, experiential, emotion-focused, and cognitive-behavioural. Brittany enjoys using humor and relational therapy to create a compassionate and safe space for clients to address whatever issues they need.

Brittany spends most of her free time out in nature with her family and friends. She enjoys chasing some adventure and finding an opportunity to slow down to observe. When in doubt, Brittany thinks everyday should end with a warm campfire and a good book.
