Something that makes Equinox Therapeutic unique as a mental health clinic in Edmonton is the fact that we also offer Equine-Assisted Mental Health (EAMH) therapy. We have psychologists and counsellors who are trained in this specific modality to help our clients reach their goals with this type of treatment.
Our EAMH work operates at two locations. Within Edmonton, we work out of the Whitemud Equine Learning Centre Association, which is located in the heart of Edmonton and is accessible by public transportation. For more information about the Centre, please visit their website at welca.ca. Our second location is at a private farm located approximately 20 minutes east of Edmonton.

Equine-Assisted Mental Health (EAMH) sessions involve a client working toward their therapeutic goals through interactions with both a horse and a therapist. It involves “ground-based activities”, such as grooming, haltering, and leading a horse. Over time, clients are supported in developing a relationship with one or several horses, and it is through guided exploration of this relationship that the therapeutic work occurs. EAMH can be a highly rewarding and experiential way to develop insight into current difficulties as well as focus on resolutions.
No experience with horses is needed. Equine-assisted mental health therapy sessions are done from the ground, not on horseback, and are focused on connection, observation, and gentle interaction.
Horses are highly attuned to human emotions and respond to nonverbal cues, making them incredible mirrors for patterns around trust, boundaries, and regulation. Their calm, present nature can help clients reconnect with their own sense of safety.
Yes. Sessions are facilitated by trained professionals who prioritize emotional and physical safety, selecting appropriate horses and guiding all interactions with care. Activities are always adjusted to your comfort level.
Sessions involve meeting the horses, observing their behavior, guided interactions such as grooming or leading, and reflective processing with your therapist. You set the pace, and every activity is designed to support regulation, connection, and healing.
